A wool and mohair bouclé cloth
Earlier this week I had to travel into London to see some customers in Savile Row and although the sun was shining it was still freezing cold outside. Whenever I am in London I always have fittings or sketches to carry and although the temperature may be freezing here at my workshop in Bedfordshire, in 'Town' it's always a few degrees higher, so carrying a coat is often an encumbrance. I have found a cloth that is the perfect answer; it is a wool and mohair bouclé, so it is warm but also lightweight. It is available in several colourways and can be complemented by a contrasting plain skirt or trousers. I find this a very useful jacket, the one I am wearing in the picture below has a contrasting braid on the edges, knitted from cloth of the contrasting skirt.
Here I'm wearing said cloth; talking to my tailoring friend Andrew Ramroop from Maurice Sedwell Ltd. (number 19 Savile Row.) We are discussing the lapel hole on a coat, usually this is worked in a matching buttonhole twist to the cloth but Andrew sometimes matches this to a contrast lining, I have worked many holes like this for him, although they take much longer to work, as each stitch is so much more clearly defined, the effect it gives looks good. I still rate Maurice Sedwell as one of the best tailors in Savile Row, their standards are high and like myself always use traditional Savile Row Methods.
